CLAIRECORDS NEWSLETTER 10/05 Welcome to the fifteenth edition of the Clairecords newsletter. It’s time for apple bobbing, bag snatching and maybe a pumpkin smashing or two. Boo! EAU CLAIRE Our favorite (and only!) X-chromosomed duo are moving forward with their plans for global conquest. Firstly, Rachel and Jessica plan to begin work on the first Eau Claire full-length in March or so; in the meantime, Rachel has set her sights on fabulous Weston-Super-Mare, England, where she’ll contribute to the next Monster Movie LP. Rachel has also signed the Stockholm fivesome South Ambulance to her very own label, Rollerderby Records. Jessica, meanwhile, is putting the finishing touches on her fourth solo album and the second <> studio project. http://www.eauclairemusic.com MONSTER MOVIE Christian Savill speaks! “Sweet Home Alabama, we're almost there. Listen, we've got one more week of recording to do. The album is now at the stage where we've got a pretty good idea of how it will turn out and it will be brilliant. We think this album bats right the way down the order. We've got a variety of stuff on there from disco to folk but we think we've managed to get it all to fit together - something we didn't do on 'To The Moon.’ We're also still looking for a London-based drummer and a bass player so we can play live because we haven't made a friend or sold a record since 2001 and we want to. So let us know if you've got two hands and are independently wealthy.” http://www.monster-movie.com SCIFLYER We thought you’d be excited to know that The Age of Lovely, Intimate Things placed #12 on WICR-FM’s (Indianapolis IN) last CMJ report, right between Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice and Cerulean. If you reside within the coverage areas of KANM-AM/FM (Texas A & M), WMBR-FM (MIT) or WRBB-FM (Northeastern Univ) you’re highly likely to have heard one or more cuts from this fabtabulous mini-album wafting from your stereo in terrific hi-fi sound. Radio adds mean extra treats in the Halloween bag! In further news Sciflyer are actively auditioning drummers, so drop them a line if a.) you’re located in or near the San Francisco Bay Area and b.) repeatedly hitting things with other things for an extended period of time is your idea of fun. http://www.sciflyer.net TEST TONES VOL. 5 The fifth edition of our ever-popular quarterly compilation series Is now available at an independent record retailer near you (i.e. tonevendor.com) and features previously-released selections by the likes of Linda Draper, The Ebb and Flow, and the most ubiquitous Sciflyer. Until it arrives, which will happen sometime next year, the group will contribute a new track, “Get On, Me,” to the next installment of Club AC30’s split-single series. It’s due out in December, so don’t forget to include it on your Christmas list? http://www.thebrotherkite.com *** CLAIRECORDS MEDIA DARLINGS! *** EAU CLAIRE "’Freefall’ is the fuzzed-out missing link between the sub-sub-sub-genres of slow-core and shoegaze that would not be out of place on ‘Loveless’ or ‘The Curtain Hits the Cast.’” -- Michael Metivier, Popmatters.com SCIFLYER “With five tracks clocking in at just over a half an hour, Sciflyer's approach is true to the shoegazer tact of yore on The Age of Lovely, Intimate Things, while maintaining a uniqueness that sets it apart from the Ride and Swervedriver worshipers that have scattered the alternative music landscape since the early '90s.” -- John D. If we continue at our current pace we should be in a position to record it all early next year, hopefully with Pat Collier again. Until then it's heads down.” Questions? Comments?
