CLAIRECORDS NEWSLETTER AUGUST ‘06 Welcome to the 23rd edition of the Clairecords newsletter, brought to you by occupants of interplanetary craft. Holy tourdates, Batman! Everybody and their grandma’s hitting the road for some far-flung destination or other and bringing the rock straight to you. Y’all go see ‘em now, y’hear? But that’s not all! Be sure to check out our newly-redesigned Web site too. Ooh, pretty! On to the happs: MALORY Achtung, baby! It’s been a project five years in the making, but we’re beyond thrilled to announce that our fabtabulous reissue of Not Here, Not Now, the 1999 debut from German dream-popsters Malory, will arrive in November with bonus material. One of our mailorder department’s best-selling releases ever, this fascinating album inspired us to license its follow-up, Outerbeats, for release in America. Second chances don’t come around often, so if you haven’t yet experienced of Not Here, Not Now in its auditory splendor, consider yourself fortunate. http://www.malory-music.com SCIFLYER Calling all occupants of interplanetary craft! Sciflyer have announced plans to begin recording their next outing of otherworldly magic. Presently emerging under the working title They Only Believe In The Moon, its tracklisting includes “So Close To Over,” “Strange Kind,” “Creator,” “Interstellar Overdrive,” and what Steve Kennedy labels a “Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd cover.” Kickass, huh? The band hopes to complete recording in January or February. Stay tuned, kiddies! http://www.sciflyer.net THE BROTHER KITE If you’re planning to be in or around the Providence, RI area on Sept. 7 be sure to stop by the Century Lounge and throw your underwear at your favorite band at their CD release show. But wait, there’s more! The Brother Kite have also redesigned their Web site all nice and pretty-like in honor of Waiting for the Time to be Right (out Sept. 12; tonevendor.com is now accepting orders), and a plethora of fabtabulous downloadables await you. There’s plenty more tour dates ahead too, including a few appearances with British shoegazers Secret Shine, who recently emerged from a nine-year hiatus and issued a nifty compilation called After Years on some label called Clairecords many, many moons ago. Before the earth cooled, in fact. Anyway, browse downward for the happs! http://www.thebrotherkite.com THE TANGLES If your record collection includes a copy of Test Tones V (and whose doesn’t?) you’re already quite familiar with the long-running Sacramento indie-pop trio The Tangles. Be sure to tune in to KDVS-FM (90.3 FM, Davis CA; listen live at kdvs.org) at 11pm PDT Sept. 14 for their long-awaited return to Live in Studio A! The Sacramento trio are hard at work on new material, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, download some tunes from their Myspace site. http://www.myspace.com/1995tangles *** CLAIRECORDS AND THE MEDIA: A DEADLY COMBINATION *** SILVER SCREEN “Closet musical genius Cris Miller is Silver Screen - he writes the songs, plays the instruments, and produces the records. His guitars jangle with just the perfect amount of trebly sparkle, highly reminiscent of later Trashcan Sinatras and possibly The Railway Children.” - Embo Blake, Hybridmagazine.com THE BROTHER KITE “Waiting for the Time to be Right is another excellent addition to the group's catalog. Featuring twelve wonderfully inviting tracks, the album's tunes are smart, thoughtful, and insightful.” - Babysue *** CLAIRECORDS LIVE AND IN YO’ FACE! *** AIRIEL 09/02/06 New York, NY- Sin-e w/ A Place to Bury Strangers, The Vandelles 09/03/06 Brooklyn, NY- Europa Night Club w/ Elika, Sea Cat 09/19/06 Chicago, IL- Subterranean w/ Snowden EAU CLAIRE 11/17/06 Boston, MA- Regent Theater (Brainwaves Festival)** ** Jessica Bailiff solo performance MALORY 10/07/06 Berlin, DE- Schokoladen 10/13/06 Dresden, DE- Groove Station 10/14/06 Siegen, DE- Musikclub Meyer SECRET SHINE 09/16/06 Aarhus, DK- Musikcafeen (Pop Revo Festival) w/ Harper Lee, BMX Bandits + more 09/20/06 Birmingham, UK- Flapper and Firkin w/ July Skies 09/23/06 Bristol, UK- Louisianna w/ July Skies 10/07/06 New York, NY- Cake Shop 10/08/06 Northampton, MA- The Elevens (Popfest New England) 10/09/06 Washington, DC- TBA THE BROTHER KITE 09/07/06 Providence, RI- Century Lounge (CD release show) 09/08/06 Fairhaven, MA- Bridge Street Station w/ Rooftop Suicide Club 09/17/06 Cambridge, MA- Middle East w/ Plumerai, Seven Sunless Day, The Second Hand 10/07/06 New York, NY- Cake Shop w/ Secret Shine 10/08/06 Northampton, MA- The Elevens (Popfest New England) w/ Secret Shine, Human Television + more THE TANGLES 09/03/06 Sacramento, CA- On the Y 09/14/06 Davis, CA- Live in Studio A (KDVS-FM on-air appearance) ___________________________________________ Clairecords * Purveyors of Quality Noise http://www.clairecords.com http://www.myspace.com/clairecords
