CLAIRECORDS NEWSLETTER APRIL '07 Welcome to the 29th edition of the Clairecords newsletter, brought to you by a great big box of Kleenex. Achoo! ELECTRO GROUP They’ve shared the stage with Sleater-Kinney, Mates of State and Man or Astro-man?, they’ve recorded with the likes of St. Avalanche and Citizens Here and Abroad, and now the Sacramento-bred Electro Group are preparing to release Good Technology, their first studio full-length in six years, on Sept. 4. Fans of All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors, Chapterhouse and Lush will swoon over Electro Group’s distorted guitars, propulsive rhythms and evocative lyrics. The group comes to us from Omnibus Records, who issued their debut long-player, A New Pacifica, in 2001. Preceded by a slew of compilation appearances and split- and solo 7-inches, A New Pacifica was followed in 2004 by the Ummo EP. You can find many of these releases at tonevendor.com – a perfect way to become better acquainted with this fantastic (and vastly-underrated) band before Good Technology arrives. http://electrogroupmusic.com MAHOGANY Pitchfork gave it a 7.6, and Clairecords is now bringing you Mahogany’s latest, Connectivity!, to you on glorious wax. We don’t have a concrete release date at this point, but expect it to be emanating from the comfort of your very own hi-fi in the next few months. Domino Records uber-DJ Ulrich Schnauss is remixing Mahogany for an upcoming 12-inch to be released by our vinyl-only sister label, Claire’s Echo, so be sure to save some of your tax-refund cash for this other exciting release. http://www.mahogany.nu SCIFLYER We at Clairecords hate to be the bearers of bad tidings, but it’s with heavy hearts that we must report that Sciflyer have had to cancel their June tour due to previously-unforeseen circumstances. Progress, however, continues on the group’s next album, They Only Believe in the Moon, and we’ll have it in your grubby mitts as soon as is humanly possible. We promise. http://www.sciflyer.net THE BROTHER KITE The Brother Kite stopped by WERS-FM (Boston, MA) for a chat and performance recently; click forth to see what happened: http://www.wers.org/articles/?id=403 . The Pride of Providence are also the subject of a very thought-provoking and flattering feature in this month’s issue of the highly-esteemed Northeast Performer, which you can read here: http://www.performermag.com/nep.feature.0704.php . The group are also hard at work on a five-track project tentatively titled The Moonlit Race EP. The Brother Kite are seeking local openers for their Washington, DC appearance, and are still actively seeking gigs in Atlanta, Philadelphia and Chapel Hill and surrounding areas (dates indicated by TBA in the tourdates section), so if you’re in a band from those areas or otherwise have the proper connections, by all means give us a holler! Death Metal Oscar will reward you. And keep that hi-fi primed and ready for our forthcoming 180-gram limited-edition version of Waiting for the Time to be Right. Just how limited? you inquire, rubbing your chin in contemplative intrigue. Three hundred (300) copies, that’s how limited—accompanied by a CD-R containing an exclusive alternate mix of its contents. If you’re not excited by now, check your pulse. Really. http://www.thebrotherkite.com RAYMOND SCOTT WOOLSON The newest addition to Clairecords’ fold, Raymond Scott Woolson crafts blissful instrumental passages evocative of July Skies and Stars of the Lid from his home base in western New York. While his first album for us is still a work in progress, his last one, the phenomenal Accidental Grace Notes, is available for download on iTunes, or for purchase at tonevendor.com. Don’t forget to visit him the next time you’re on Myspace, at www.myspace.com/raymondscottwoolson . http://www.raymondscottwoolson.com *** WHAT ALL THE IMPORTANT PEOPLE ARE SAYING*** THE BROTHER KITE “In a time where many bands are aspiring to the stripped-down garage sound, The Brother Kite says ‘to hell with it’ and layers in an uncountable number of guitars, creating a certifiable wall of sound that would make members of The Arcade Fire blush with pride, and maybe a little envy.” -- C.D. Di Guardia, Northeast Performer ELECTRO GROUP “Reinventing the Wall of Sound as electric blanket, this Northern California band take My Bloody Valentine for a Ride, wrapping lyrical streams of self-consciousness in pillowy layers of guitar feedback and keyboard effects.” -- Gear Magazine MAHOGANY “It comes as little surprise to me that at least one member of Brooklyn eight-piece Mahogany are involved in the world of architecture-- Connectivity! is as much a structural achievement as it is a simply gorgeous record, cultivating a graceful, time-collapsing sense of modernity.” —Matt LeMay, Pitchfork *** CLAIRECORDS LIVE AND IN STEREO!*** AIRIEL 05/17/07 Chicago, IL- WLUW 88.7 FM (in-studio performance) 05/31/07 Chicago, IL- The Darkroom w/ The Vandelles, A Place to Bury Strangers 06/23/07 Chicago, IL- The Continental (street festival) 07/08/07 Omaha NE- Saddle Creek Bar w/ Drakes Hotel 07/09/07 Denver CO- Three Kings Tavern 07/11/07 Los Angeles CA-Club Moscow 07/14/07 Portland, OR- Aladdin Theater MAHOGANY 05/26/07 Lima, Peru- La Noche de Barranco w/ Resplandor PAIK 05/03/07 San Francisco, CA- The Eagle Tavern w/ E-Z Tiger 05/06/07 San Diego, CA- House of Blues w/ Black Rebel Motorcycle Club SCIFLYER 05/26/07 San Francisco, CA- The Knockout w/ Montana, Fleeting Joys THE BROTHER KITE 05/03/07 Providence, RI- Lupo’s w/ The Almost 06/16/07 New York, NY- Fat Baby 06/17/07 Philadelphia PA- North Star Bar w/ The Silence Kit 06/18/07 Washington, DC- The Red and the Black w/ Jonny Cohen, Tallest Highest 06/19/07 Norfolk, VA- Relative Theory 06/20/07 Chapel Hill NC (or elsewhere in NC/SC)- TBA 06/21/07 Gainesville FL- Common Grounds w/ Voxtrot, Holopaw 06/22/07 Atlanta GA- TBA 06/23/07 NC/VA- TBA 06/24/07 NYC, NY- TBA
