CLAIRECORDS NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2004 Welcome to the sixth edition of the Clairecords newsletter. Dears and sirens and hot lovinı, oh boy! *** ARTIST NEWS **** AIRIEL Airiel have posted new mp3s on their Web site, and KFJC-FM (Los Altos Hills, CA) rocks for adding Crackled to rotation! The group recently shared the stage with spinART recording artists The Dears, and are planning a major tour for next spring. http://www.sonicbaby.com/airiel AIR FORMATION Lotsa hot lovinı for CJSF (Vancouver, BC), WKDU-FM (Philly), WVKR-FM (Vassar), WMUA-FM (Amherst, MA) and WNYU-FM (NYC) for adding Stay Inside/Feel Everything to their playlists. Weıd like to take this opportunity to commend them for their excellent taste. If youıre going to be in London in early December, you can see them open for former Slowdive/present Mojave 3 siren Rachel Goswell. Deck the halls! http://www.airformation.com EAU CLAIRE Clairecords is excitedly preparing to release the debut EP from this collaboration between Jessica Bailiff (Clear Horizon) and Rachel Staggs (Experimental Aircraft) later this fall. Lowıs Alan Sparhawk recorded and produced. More details as soon as they become available. http://www.rollerderbyrecords.com/eau_claire.htm THE FLATMATES Due to unexpected technical difficulties at the Clairecords Tune Factory, Love and Deathıs release date is being postponed a wee bit. Rest assured, however, that we will still be able to accommodate requests for music, interviews and retail orders with a minimum of fuss, so feel free to contact us regarding any or all of those matters. In the meantime, you can peruse Martin Whiteheadıs thoughts on C-86 revivalism in a recent Guardian piece called ³Fey City Rollers.² Clever, no? http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/features/story/0,11710,1325674,00.html http://www.theflatmates.com MONSTER MOVIE Stop the presses! Sean and Christian dared depart their clandestine locale for a recent DJ gig at Club AC30: "We pressed play on the tape machine and then stood around looking like pervy teachers at a school disco" (The terrible twosome are available for private events-- why not have them spin at your next bachelorette party, quincinera, Super Bowl party or bris? Keep them in mind for the office Christmas party too!) In further happenings, MM also had a close encounter with Eau Claireıs Rachel Staggs: "Rachel flew in from her Goldstarland theme park in Texas to sing on 3 tracks from our soon to be #1 in the reverse charts mini-album Transistor. She demonstrated that not only is she a super singer, but also that she has an almost insatiable appetite for tapas. If we can afford her rather outrageous ryder requirements, we hope that she will sing on our 3rd album. We are already raging hard in preparation for recording." And,finally, KEXP-FM (Seattle) and WRRG-FM (Chicago) have been especially kind in adding To the Moon to their playlists. (Note: Transistor will be released by the Graveface imprint and available for purchase from Tonevendor.) http://www.monster-movie.com PIA FRAUS Pia Fraus welcomed their new EP, Mooie Island (now available at tonevendor.com), into the world at Tallinn, Estoniaıs historic Von Krahl Theater, where the Teenage Kicks Festival convenes every year. The main attraction this year was reportedly someone named Boomhauer from Finland. Just like that King of the Hill guy! Crazy. http://www.piafraus.com TEST TONES V. 3 The new hotness! One painful year overdue, Test Tones, Vol. 3 is still set to arrive next month, with exclusive tunes from peeps like Citizens Here and Abroad, la Pieta, Gary Young's Hospital, My Education, Rock the Light, and Waterline Drift; and previously-released or forthcoming cuts from The Frenchmen, The Workhouse, Detwiije and more. Four dollars, people! Who canıt afford that, even in this turgid economy? Weıre in the process of finalizing the release date for Volume 4, too. http://www.clairecords.com THEBROTHERKITE KDVS-FM (UC Davis), CJAM (Windsor/Detroit), 3WK, Aural Innovations and, of course, KEXP-FM (Seattle) all get extra sweets in their trick-or-treat bags for giving thebrotherkiteıs eponymous debut such generous airplay. Another rip-roarinı road trip is being planned for January, so stay tuned! http://www.thebrotherkite.com **** PRESS-O-RAMA! **** AIR FORMATION "The songs on Stay Inside / Feel Everything spin like the ocean. Wave after wave after wave approach and disappear...creating a peculiar organic brand of subdued droning fuzz pop." -Babysue MONSTER MOVIE "To the Moon is about the blithe optimism found in sunrises and open highways, of the uplifting power of carefree pop. When the sun hits, it sounds like this." - Steve English, Splendid PIA FRAUS "Loose and jubilant as springtime, violently happy and crammed with the sound of 100 guitars on overdrive." - J.
